PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE!!
Greetings to all as the autumn season is upon
us. Since my last President's message, many wonderful events have
taken place far our Council and those we support. During the last
several months the Central Jersey Council has been engaged in discussions
with the Jersey Coast Council. On Sept. 1, 2005, by majority vote
of both Council's Board of Directors, both of our Councils agreed
to merge. Officers from both Councils are finalizing all the relevant
details. Once completed formal notification to the NJ Area President,
Liberty Region President and National will be made.
For the Central Jersey Council, everything pretty
much remains unchanged. Our name, meeting place and our adopted
units all remain in place. For the Jersey Coast Council, all of
their members will become part of our membership. I have extended
to several of their officers an invitation to become members of
our Board of Directors and to even become officers.
The greatest positive result from this merger
will be that we, as a very active Council will be joined by active
Navy Leaguers who were part of a less active Council. Additionally
a premier Sea Cadet unit, the Earle Division will now be sponsored
by the Central Jersey Council. The Earle Division is headquartered
in its own building at NWS Earle. The cadets and their officers
provide tremendous support to the base and its social activities.
The mixture of our resources and their hands on activities and access
to NWS Earle are a great combination. This news has been warmly
received by Capt. Robertson, CO NWS Earle, Nancy Eldridge, the base
PAO and the base's MWR Group. This increased ability to work with
and help the soldiers and sailors at Earle is now at a level that
no one could have ever imagined.
As new opportunities now await us, we must be
mindful of and continue to honor all of our commitments to our three
adopted Coast Guard Cutters and of course our own Sea Cadet Unit,
the Kitty Hawk Division. As we take this step forward, I'd like
to recognize Rich Baumann and the Officers of the Jersey Coast Council
for having the
forethought and trust in wishing to join forces with us. Most importantly
though, I'd like to welcome them and all their members to our Council.
