PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE!!
Last month my President's message was devoted
almost entirely to the merger of the Central Jersey Council with
the Jersey Coast Council. This month allow me to outline the Council's
plans for the remainder of the year.
On Tuesday, October 25, 2005, the council will
have its final dinner meeting for 2005. Our guests will be the new
Commanding Officers from our adopted cutters the Bainbridge Island
and the Sailfish. As is customary, we shall meet at the East Brunswick
Chateau for 6:00 PM with dinner being served at 7:00 PM. Our formal
program will begin after dinner. Please use the enclosed reservation
form to reserve your space. It was my honor to represent the Council
at their change of command ceremonies over this past summer. Lt.
jg Nick Tabori relieved Lt. jg Barnaby Bosanquet on the USCGC Sailfish
on June 25, 2005. Lt. Peter Van Ness relieved Lt. Cmdr. Dan Pickles
shortly thereafter on board the USCGC Bainbridge Island on July
29, 2005. Each departing Commanding Officer received a Nate Ostrow
original painting of their ship from the Council. All those in attendance
had a wonderful time and were able to personally welcome the new
COs as well as wish the departing COs their very best.
On Sept. 17, 2005, PAO Monty Zaks and I were guests
on board the Battleship New Jersey for a formal ceremony presenting
the BB62 Sea Cadet Division with ball caps from the Battleship New
Jersey Historical Society. Not only was it a great experience to
board America's most decorated warship, but it was great to see
the Cadets as well as Walter Olkowski and Stu Chaulkley. Please
make every attempt you can to visit the museum and help support
the Historic society and the Sea Cadets.
On Sept. 18, 2005 several of the Council Officers
traveled to Ft. Dix for the official changing of the name ceremony
for our own Sea Cadet Unit. The Kitty Hawk Division has formally
become the Aegis Division. It was an honor to be chosen as the keynote
speaker for this event as well as to receive on behalf of the Council
the Kitty Hawk Division colors.
As September comes to an end and October begins,
we see the days growing shorter and cooler. That means that its
almost time for our Annual Turkey Drive. Please remember to seek
out as many turkeys as you can so we can donate them to deserving
military families in our adopted units. If you are unable to do
so, please consider making a small donation so food cards can be
purchased for those deserving families. If you have any questions
please do not hesitate to contact either Ed Troche at 732-324-7852
or myself at 732-257-7999.
