October 2005

Please keep in mind that our own individual Christmas giving trees will be set up at the October dinner meeting. See the article elsewhere in this newsletter for details.
My heartfelt thanks go out to all members of the council who are supporters of our military, their families and most of all the United States of America!

SUPPORT THE NAVY BALL

Come and join us at the NWS Earle Navy Ball (black tie optional) on Friday, October 28, 2005 at the Sheraton Hotel, Route 35, Eatontown, NJ. A one hour open bar with hors d'oeuvres starts at 6:30 PM followed by dinner at 7:30 PM. Entertainment is by the Electric Brigade, the Naval Academy Band. Entree choices are chicken marsala, prime rib of beef or flounder francaise. The cost is $50 per person and check can be made payable to the Navy Ball Committee and mailed to Jane Niedzwiecki, 282 Jill Court, Toms River, NJ 08753 by October 10th.

COUNCIL ID CARDS AVAILABLE

Anyone wishing to receive a Central Jersey Council Photo ID card should plan on attending the dinner meeting at the East Brunswick Chateau. Our Council Photographer, Monty Zaks will take your picture as well as other pertinent information. The card will be produced, laminated and be available to the member at the regular November Council meeting. Each cardholder's name will be presented to our adopted units or base for their security teams. We believe that this ID card and information will provide for speedier access when visiting these units. The ID card is also a unique way to demonstrate your membership with the Central Jersey Council.

GIVING TREE IS READIED

On Tuesday, October 25, 2005, the Council will hold its next dinner meeting at the East Brunswick Chateau (see page 1 & flyer for details). At that time our Council's Giving Tree will be ready. Each year Council members are asked to take at least one card from the giving tree. The card has the name, age and sex of a child whose parent is serving on board one of our adopted cutters (Katherine Walker, Bainbridge Island or Sailfish). Each participant is asked to purchase a gift for that child costing no more than $30.00, wrapping that gift and bringing it to the November Council Meeting. At the Brunch with Santa on board the Katherine Walker in early December your gift will be given to that child by Santa Claus. If you've participated before, we look forward to your support again this year. If you've never participated before, please join us in this wonderful event that was started many years ago by Jack & Elaine Leslie. The smiles and joy that abound across the mess deck by these children is a great way to start the holiday season.
