CENTRAL JERSEY COUNCIL SAYS GOODBYE TO A DEAR FRIEND
AT THE CHANGE OF COMMAND CEREMONY FOR THE USCGC SAILFISH:
On Friday August 10, 2007 the Council said goodbye to our dear friend Lt. Nick Tabori, The formal ceremony took place at Sandy Hook Station and was presided over by the Deputy Commander of Sector New York Captain Michael; Gardner. Lt. Nick Tabori is now assigned to US Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington DC. He was relieved by Ltjg. Scott Mitchell.

Both officers were veterans of Persian Gulf service in the US Coast Guard prior to taking the helm of the USCGC Sailfish. Council members William Aitken, Dan Dermer and President Richard Ehlert attended the ceremony. Past Council President Dan Dermer said a few kind words as he presented Mr. Tabori with beautiful water colored painting of the Sailfish by Nate Ostrow. Lt. Tabori thanked the Council for all of the support and friendship he received as Commanding Officer of the Sailfish. The Council wishes him the best of luck as he starts his new assignment.

TURKEY DRIVE:

Starting in early November, the Council will kick off its Annual Turkey Drive. As in years past we plan on giving needy families on board our adopted cutters and at NWS Earle Turkeys and food baskets for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

If you, your friends or your employer wish to contribute to this cause, please contact council President Richard Ehlert.

DINNER MEETING PLANNED:
On Tuesday, October 23, 2007, the Council will have its final dinner meeting for the year. Our guests will be the new Commanding Officers from our adopted cutters the Bainbridge Island and the Sailfish, as well as Lt. Amy Florentino Commanding Officer of the Katherine Walker. Captain O’Brien, new Commanding Officer from Coast Guard Sector NY will introduce his new Deputy Commander Captain Michael Gardner as our special guest of honor. The evenings events will also include the formal re-adoptions of the USCGC Katherine Walker and the Aegis Division of the NSCC.

As is customary, we shall meet at the East Brunswick Chateau for 6:00 PM with Dinner being served at 7:00 PM. Our formal program will begin after dinner. Please use the enclosed reservation form to reserve your space or contact Dan Dermer at 732-257-7999.

The cost per person is $25.00 and refreshments are available. Please plan on attending this dinner so you can personally welcome the new CO’s as well as wish Captain Gardner your very best.
